This mixed media painting was round two of a commissioned piece. While working on the first piece, now titled “Shine”, the work took a different direction than one I thought the client would like (!) – its own direction! That’s painting for you!

It was strange, but powerful. I had expected that, if I started with a fixed idea, the process of painting or making the work would be less of an adventure of discovery, but I was wrong – the work still unfolded in its own way – and fast. it had its own energy and its own momentum and I felt totally connected with the process, but still not totally in control (the last thing I want is to be totally in control). When I stepped back from it to look and really take in the final result, it surprised me and made me smile – I love that moment!
So, I’m now excited to begin the next series of work and experiment further with different mindsets going into the journey of each piece.
