St Thomas Way Launch Events
Hereford Cathedral, Saturday 7th July
To celebrate the launch of the St Thomas Way, there’s a whole day of events at Hereford Cathedral. The trail has taken months of research, miles of walking and a dedicated team to put everything in place. Now it’s time to walk the walks, explore the medieval treasures in all of the 13 key points along this new heritage route and enjoy it all.
Michelle is running two creative mapping workshops in the cathedral:
Creative Mapping Workshops – Saturday 7th July
Both workshops explore themes in the exhibition and are guided by the artist, Michelle Rumney. The workshops are free, but booking ahead is essential – please telephone or email to reserve places.
10:00 – 12:00
Mapping Medieval and Modern Journeys – for adults (ages 14+)
Using the Mappa Mundi and St Thomas Way as starting points, learn to make sense of your surroundings and your relationship to it in different ways. Challenge what a map is for and how it helps you make a journey. Map a personal ’pilgrimage’ and see what unfolds… a creative mapping workshop that will give you new tools to use when you next make a journey, either real or imagined.
All welcome – no previous experience is necessary. Materials will be provided.
13:30 – 15:00
How long is your piece of string? Making New Maps – for families
A fun and active workshop exploring our sense of space. Michelle will lead the group around the cathedral making a map together as we go. Learn how people in Medieval times measured time and space – find out just how long a league and a furlong are, see how far a medieval minute went and where your own length in string will lead you…
All welcome, but children should be accompanied by an adult. Materials will be provided.
Events are free, but please book ahead via the Cathedral:
